Trampoline Arena Franchises Beware – Bouncing to ER: Doctors warn of trampoline injuries

Jumping on a trampoline can be a great form of exercise but doctors are warning kids and parents about the potential dangers.
No matter what sport you play, there’s always a risk of injury.
Now the trampoline has doctors and EMSA paramedics worried.

“I don’t think kids are trampoline savvy. I think we as parents have to ask ourselves what do we know that’s fundamentally dangerous about a trampoline and what is fundamentally fun about a trampoline,” Dr. Amanda Bogie said, an OU Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist.
In the last two weeks, EMSA has responded to trampoline injuries at a new trampoline park in Edmond.
“We’ve responded to three trampoline-related calls, those calls were of a traumatic nature with neck and extremity fractures,” Chris Prutzman said with EMSA.
Marc Taylor, Owner of the new trampoline park, said they are 99 percent injury free and have court monitors, similar to a lifeguard at a pool.
“We have court monitors, several of them and they are trained in CPR and first aid through American Red Cross,” he said.
Doctors still warn users the trampoline is very dangerous.
“Certainly kids get injured in baseball, they get injured in basketball, they get injured in soccer, but we have really good data to support that there is increased risk in trampoline injuries compared to those other sports,” Dr. Bogie said.
According to Elevation’s Facebook page, their injury rate is .6 percent, making their facility’s injury rate lower than the national average of other sports.
Marc said it’s about jumping within your ability.
“Don’t push it in our facility, go to a gymnastics facility if you want to push it,” Marc said.
Doctors said the key issue is supervision with parents, so they remind parents to keep your eyes on your kid at all times.
